Apley Maize Maze & Summer Fun is the unmissable 2019 family attraction at Apley Farm Shop, between Telford & Bridgnorth, Shropshire. There’s so much fun for everyone whatever their age, you’re bound to have a great family day out. Our adjoining field has a picnic tables, food & drinks for sale, teepee tent, football goals, a tyre mountain & bale tunnel.

It’s open from Sat 20 July to Thurs 31 Oct, during our normal opening hours. Tickets from £6-55 & are cheaper when bought online. They can be used on any day, giving our customers full flexibility when planning days out. Joint tickets available with Scotty’s Animal Park & Pigg’s Playbarn.

Where do I park & how much is parking? We have plenty of free parking on the field near the maze
Where is the nearest loo? There will be one portaloo near the maze for staff & emergency use only.

There are loos in Pigg’s Playbarn & next to the Creamery Cafe

Where can I put my rubbish? There are 5 bins in & around the maze. Please help us to keep the site free of litter by using those bins
Once I’ve parked, where do I go first ? Enter through the Food Hall, cross the courtyard to Pigg’s Playbarn where a staff member will greet you. They will be wearing dark green maze staff T shirts
Do you sell rain coats, suncream & bite cream? Yes, we sell all these items from the cabin at the Maze Entrance
What are the rules for maze explorers? All maze explorers will be asked to sign rules before entering.


Anyone breaking down the maze or damaging any of the plants or any part of the site in any way, will be asked to leave the whole site with‎out any ticket refund

What should I wear? Always dress for the weather, no flipflops or sandals. We recommend sturdy shoes, long sleeves & covered legs, as the maze leaves can be sharp.
Can I eat the maze? Please do not touch the plants at all & certainly do not pick or eat the maize
Can I take food into the maze? Take a bottle of water, but no food please as this can encourage vermin.

We sell plenty of light snacks, drinks & icecream on maze field, from the Apley Catering Van.

We also offer full meals in the Creamery Café. You can eat indoors or at our outside tables in the courtyard. There are also food & drinks offered in Pigg’s Playbarn.

The Creamery Café sells breakfasts & lunches, snacks, hot & cold drinks, icecreams, cakes, Cream Teas & Afternoon Teas. Afternoon Teas must be pre-booked 24 hrs in advance please.

Can we take dogs into the maze? Sorry we can’t for Health & Hygiene reasons. If you leave your dog in the car, please leave a window open & a bowl of water. You can walk our free 45 mins Skylark Nature Trail, but must clean up after your dog & put the plastic bag into a bin or take home
Can we bring a wheelchair or pushchair? It is a real field & the ground may be bumpy & or muddy.


The surface within the main maze is not suitable for small wheel pushchairs. Also, there are steps over a bridge.

However, the surface in the small maze is more suitable, but this depends on weather conditions of course.

Where can I buy my tickets? You can buy your maze tickets online or in Pigg’s Playbarn. On arrival go to the playbarn to buy or redeem your ticket. Receive a wristband which gives access to either just the maze or the whole site. Show your wrist band to staff at the maze entrance.

If you buy an All-Inclusive ticket, you will need to show your wristbands (or pb/ Scotties if you have combined ticket)

Can I use my ticket on any day I choose? Yes, your tickets are open tickets which means you can come & redeem (use) your ticket on any day, but of course only once.

The maze is open daily from Sat 20 July until Thursday 31 October 2019. However, in September & October, the maze is only open on the following days:

What if it’s raining on the day? The maze may be closed if heavy rain is forecast all day. Please check our Facebook page or call 01952 581 002 to check before setting off.

Your tickets are open tickets which means you can come & redeem (use) your ticket on any day, but of course only once.

Or face the [light] rain in your wellies & a raincoat.

We sell ponchos & umbrellas.

Can I change my ticket for another date if I can’t make it ? There is no need to do this, as your tickets are open tickets, meaning they can be used on any day before Monday 2 Sept 2019 or any weekend in Sept or October.
Can I buy a ticket on the day? Yes, but online tickets bought in advance are cheaper
How much is a family ticket?


£55 for a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 children); £48 for a family of 4
To qualify for a group ticket, how many people must be in our group ? 10 people of any Standard ticket age, with at least one adult
What if I have lost my ticket? We will search our bookings for your contact details, but if we can’t find them, we won’t be able to let you in.
Do I have to print my ticket out or can I just show it on my mobile? Just showing your ticket on your mobile is fine. Remember to charge your battery!
Where do I get my wristbands? From Pigg’s Playbarn entrance
What if I lose my wristband? Sorry, we can’t give you another wristband if you lose yours. This will mean you can’t enter the maze without buying another ticket
What types of tickets are there? Standard tickets are for the Maze only


All Day tickets are for the Maze, Pigg’s Playbarn & Scotty’s Animal Park.


We offer individual tickets for adults & children, family tickets & group tickets.

What does my All-Day ticket allow me to do? It gives you unlimited time in the maze, 2hrs in Pigg’s Playbarn & unlimited time at Scotty’s Animal Park but only on the day of your ticket
How long will it take me to complete the maze? Approx 1hr – it depends how well you navigate your way!
How long can I stay? You can stay all day whether you’ve got a Standard Maze ticket or an All-Day ticket
Do I pay extra for tyre & bale playgrounds No, those are both free additional extra activities
What else can I do whilst I’m at Apley Farm Shop? The tyre & bale playground & other games near the maze entrance are free. The Skylark Nature Trail is also free & takes 45mins. The Creamery Café & Pigg’s Playbarn are also open daily.


Do your shopping in the Food Hall of Apley Farm Shop itself where you’ll find a butcher & delicatessen & much more.


Paint & Create (pottery & craft studio), Scotty’s Animal Park, Moongate Plant Centre, Big Little Things (gifts & florists), Bella’s Gifts are privately run businesses in Apley Farm Shop’s shopping courtyard.

When does it open each day? 9:30am, 7 days a week
What time is the last admission? 4pm is last admission. We start asking customers to leave the maze at 4:50pm
What is the last date I can visit the maze this summer? Monday 3 Sept, last admission 4pm. It’s open weekends only in September until Saturday 30 Sept (last admission 4pm)
What is the maze made from? It’s made from real, growing, live maize (also called sweetcorn) plants. You’ll see the maize corns (corn on the cob) on the plant stems, but please don’t touch them.
What ages is it suitable for? All ages but children 14 & under must be accompanied at all times
Can I go into the maze on my own? No-one of any age whatsoever can go into the maze alone. Minimum 2 people
I’ve never been into a maize maze. What’s it like? You follow paths between very tall green sweetcorn plants to try to find the centre.
Is there a mini maze for younger children? Yes, the small maze is near the entrance & is primarily only for younger children, but anyone with a valid ticket can go in if they wish
Is there a trail to follow in the maze? Yes, there is a trail in the Mini Maze & another in the Main Maze.

At the entrance to either the Main Maze or the Mini Maze, you will be given a game card by a member of staff.

In the Main Maze, each explorer 1) finds 10 clues & 2) converts the clues to answer 2 questions:

You have to find 10 clues. Around the maze, you will find 10 rubber stamps. Stamp your game card when you find each one.

When you have found all 10 clues, make your way to the goal near the exit of the maze where you will find the Lodge where you will see a board. You can then convert each animal symbol into a letter to make a word or a number. These are the final stages of the game.

To help you when you reach the lodge, there are instructions on a board on how to complete the game.

In the Mini Maze, each child 1) finds 10 clues & 2) adds them up:

Each child searches for 10 clues. Each one contains a number of nuts. Draw the nuts into the correct space on the game card. Calculate how many nuts there are altogether in the whole game

What shall I do to AVOID getting lost in the maze?! You can buy a maze map for £1 at the entrance & you’ll be given a flag to borrow whilst you’re in the maze. You will be asked for a £1 deposit which will only be refunded if the flag is returned undamaged
What if I DO get lost!? Just wave your flag. A member of staff will come & help you.

One Tower & Bridge Guard & a ‘floater’ will be available to help at all times in the maze. One will work from the tower & bridge; the other will walk around the maze helping customers as & when necessary.

Is there a map I can use to help me find my way around the maze? Yes, the map costs £1 & is available at the entrance to Pigg’s Playbarn
How long can I stay in the maze? You can stay as long as you wish until we close
What is the maximum number of people allowed in the maze at any one time? We can allow 150 customers into the maze at any one time
